What is a Alpha-Gal diet?

An Alpha-Gal diet eliminates mammalian meat and products containing mammalian-derived ingredients to prevent allergic reactions in people with alpha-gal syndrome. This includes beef, pork, lamb, dairy products, gelatin, and certain medications derived from mammals. The condition involves a specific sugar molecule found in most mammals, often triggered after a tick bite. People may experience delayed allergic reactions 3-6 hours after consuming trigger foods. The diet focuses on safe alternatives like poultry, fish, and plant-based proteins. When followed carefully, often with guidance from an allergist or dietitian, it can prevent serious reactions while maintaining adequate nutrition.

Love Nutritional Yeast, But Bragg’s Isn’t For MTHFR

I love nutritional yeast for that cheese-like umami on popcorn and making vegan pesto or cheeze sauces. It is great for vegans as a rare vegan source of B12, but this brand adds unmethylated B12 and other B vitamins so it isn’t good for my MTHFR mutation. This brand was the only available at my supermarket, so I have it in the pantry and use sparingly. It is a great pantry staple for vegans without MTHFR issues.

Best Condiment Ever!

My daughter and I love Bragg’s nutritional yeast. This is a perfect topping for popcorn , eggs, cooked vegetables, gluten free pasta, soups, and salads. It adds a cheesy taste and is packed with protein and Vitamin B12.
