What is a Alpha-Gal diet?
An Alpha-Gal diet eliminates mammalian meat and products containing mammalian-derived ingredients to prevent allergic reactions in people with alpha-gal syndrome. This includes beef, pork, lamb, dairy products, gelatin, and certain medications derived from mammals. The condition involves a specific sugar molecule found in most mammals, often triggered after a tick bite. People may experience delayed allergic reactions 3-6 hours after consuming trigger foods. The diet focuses on safe alternatives like poultry, fish, and plant-based proteins. When followed carefully, often with guidance from an allergist or dietitian, it can prevent serious reactions while maintaining adequate nutrition.
Reviews
Too bad about the apple juice but celery? Probably not.
I often pick up one of Whole Foods green juices as I’m finishing up shopping because I get so thirsty. I don’t know what all the varieties are but I’m back to eliminating FODMAPs. Oops. Apple juice & celery. Monash Univ finds apple juice has fructose & sorbitol at 100ml; this serving size is 400ml but mixed veggie juice w/celery is given a green light at 200ml. The celery in this delightful thirst quencher is less than ginger. I wouldn’t be much concerned about mannitol in 400ml.
