Why it's not GERD friendly

organic cocoa processed with alkali

organic cocoa processed with alkali

Dietitian note

Cocoa contains compounds that can relax the lower esophageal sphincter, making it easier for stomach acid to reflux. It also stimulates the production of stomach acid, further contributing to heartburn and GERD symptoms. Additionally, cocoa's caffeine and theobromine content can exacerbate reflux by increasing stomach acidity and relaxing the LES.
