Dietitian note

Citric acid, a common food additive, is a known GERD trigger due to its high acidity, which can directly irritate the esophagus. It can also weaken the lower esophageal sphincter, allowing stomach acid to flow back up and cause heartburn. Furthermore, even small amounts of citric acid can significantly increase stomach acid production, worsening reflux symptoms.
