Is Wheat Low FODMAP?
CautionWheat and wheat flour do not have a known low FODMAP serving size. However, small portions of many wheat-based foods (bread, cereal, pasta etc.) do have a low FODMAP portion (check the Monash app for more details). While we recommend limiting wheat during the elimination phase, you may want to consider testing your tolerance with a small portion when symptoms are well managed.
Wheat and the Low FODMAP Diet
Wheat is a cereal grain that is grown globally and serves as a staple food in many diets. It is typically ground into flour, which is then used in a wide variety of foods such as bread, pasta, and baked goods. Wheat contains gluten, a protein that can cause issues for individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. It is also high in FODMAPs, which are short-chain carbohydrates that can trigger symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
